Kimono Bookmark
My friend Barbara Ashcroft gave me a beautiful bookmark inside a folded paper kimono. It's a great gift for your book loving friends. Here's my version for you.
Materials:
8 1/2" x 11" scrapbooking paper (a pattern on both sides works best)
Hole punch
Corner rounder punch or scissors
Ribbon
Glue or double-sided tape
Paper cutter
Ruler or scoring tool
Steps:
From the 8 1/2" x 11" paper, cut four pieces, the kimono, the sleeve, the belt and the bookmark.
The kimono measures 5 1/2" x 7". The sleeve measures 4 3/4" x 2 1/2". The belt measures 5 1/2" x 1 1/2". The bookmark measures 5 1/2" x 2 1/4".
Make a score line at 2 1/4" from the left side of the kimono and fold it down. Do the same from the right side. Fold back a triangular section from each of the outside sections to make the collar as shown. Use a corner rounder or scissors to round the bottom of the sleeve. Attach the sleeve to the back of the kimono with tape or glue as shown. Punch a hole at the top of the bookmark. Tie a ribbon through the hole. Lay the bookmark inside the kimono and fold the kimono around it. Wrap the belt around the kimono and tape or glue it closed. Make sure the belt can slide up and down.Enjoy!

Giving Thanks
We just got home from our Thanksgiving trip to The Grand Canyon. Normally, I would post some pictures but on a hike down Bright Angel Trail, I dropped my camera and broke it. I bought a disposable camera but as you remember they have film that needs to be developed. Tomorrow, I'll go to Costco and have the pictures I took put on a disk so I can share them. Until then, I am giving thanks for an otherwise beautiful week!

Double Ornament Card
Here's a flashy little card with a detachable ornament. I promised my friend Pat I would show her how to make it so here it is! Enjoy.
Double Ornament card steps
Supplies:
Cardstock (black, cream and metallic gold)
MSRS Cloisonné Ornament stamp
Pigment inkpad (Versamark or similar)
Mirror Gold embossing powder
Gold ribbon (1 ½” wide or your choice)
Gold wire (24 gage or whatever you have)
Cardboard
Tape
Double-sided tape or glue
Scissors
Craft knife
Paper cutter
Heat tool
Steps:
Make a folded card measuring 5” x 6 ¾” from the black cardstock.
Make a liner measuring 4 ¾” x 6 ½” for the card from the cream color cardstock and attach it to the inside of the card. Attach it just at the top. From the leftover piece, cut a panel measuring 5 ¼” x 4”.
From the metallic gold cardstock, cut two panels measuring 5 ½” x 4 ¼”. One will be a frame piece and one is to stamp on.
Stamp the Cloisonné Ornament twice on one of the metallic gold panels. Sprinkle it with Mirror Gold embossing powder and heat until raised and shiny. Cut both ornaments out.
Wrap a piece of ribbon about 7” long around the 5 ¼” x 4”cream color panel and tape it to the reverse side as shown.
Twist two small lengths of wire into loops as shown and attach one to the back of the ribbon panel and one to the back of one of the ornaments as shown.
Layer the cream color panel with the ribbon and the loop attached to the back to the remaining metallic gold panel. Attach it to the black card. Attach the ornament without the loop to the card diagonally as shown. Slip the looped ornament onto the loop on the ribbon panel and allow it to swing free.
Because this card is somewhat “front heavy”, attach a 4” x 2” panel of cardboard under the liner at the bottom of the card as shown. This will act as an unseen counterweight allowing the card to be displayed without tipping forward. Enjoy!

Friends
Carla and I had dinner with dear friends on Wednesday night. Carol Duvall is in California visiting friends and family and staying with Cherryl and Rich Greene. We all met at a charming little Italian restaurant in Culver City for an evening of fun, all too brief, of course. Thanks Carol for not doing a "spit take" from across the table!

Tiered Christmas Tree
Here's one of the cards we'll make in my "O Christmas Tree!" workshops on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Check my calendar of classes to see when and when and come by and say hi
(or Merry Christmas!).
(or Merry Christmas!).
Tiered Christmas Tree
Supplies
Green cardstock (light and dark)
Black cardstock
MSRS Cloisonné Christmas Tree stamp (large)
Black dye ink
Green Dry ink
Stipple brush
Double-sided tape
Dimensional foam tape (or pop dots)
¼” Round hole punch (or piercing tool)
Scissors
Green ribbon
Green glitter glue
Paper cutter
Steps:
Using a paper cutter, cut the dark green cardstock in half. Fold one if the pieces to make a 5 ½” x 4 ¼” card. Set it aside. From the light green cardstock, cut a 3 ½” x 5 ¼” panel. Cut the black cardstock to make a frame for the light green panel with just a scant 1/16” showing all around. Stamp the large Christmas tree using the black inkpad onto the light green panel (make sure to center it). On the leftover pieces, stamp one large tree on the light green cardstock and one the dark green card stock. Cut each tree out. Now cut each tree into four segments as shown in the picture. Using a stipple brush and the green dye inkpad, stipple some color just on the tops of each segment. To attach the segments to the stamped tree on the 3 ½” x 5 ¼” panel, attach foam tape on the back at the bottom of the segment and double-sided tape at the top. Start with the bottom layer as shown and work your way up to the top of the tree. When attaching the segments, some of the stamped tree on the panel should show here and there. (This gives the tree an extra layer of interest). Layer the panel onto the black frame and attach the framed panel to the card. Position the framed panel all the way to the right side of the card. Using the hole punch, punch two holes on the left side of the card next to the panel and thread green ribbon through the holes and tie it off. Add green glitter glue to finish the card. Enjoy!

Another tree card
Here's a fun little gift project for someone who likes jigsaw puzzles. Give them a finished card but include the christmas tree cut up into little pieces. To complete the card, they will need to "puzzle it" together. (if you want to be kind, include a picture of what the tree should look like when finished) Have fun!
