Cardboard Boxes

Sometimes a cardboard box from Costco is the best toy in the house. The girls are enjoying a ride on the "Spinning Teacups"

Leftovers

Don't forget to save the leftovers from your card making projects. I used the two leftover die cut pieces from the two card at the top to make the cards at the bottom. I just punched a lot of holes in the diecut trees and backed them with colored paper inside the leftover frames. Of course there is a fair amount of bling added on too!

Hand painted Autum card

Here's one of my favorite techniques is making hand painted backgrounds for cards. I call it NPSR technique, that's "no painting skills required". Here I used three fall colors, a one inch bristle brush, a tile scrubbing brush, Inka Gold and a Copper Pearl Pen both from Viva Decor. As you can see from the first picture I made a bunch of pages for my class this coming Saturday at Scrap 'n Yap in Monrovia. I just painted each brown piece of 8 1/2" x 11" card stock with yellow orange and gold using broad brush strokes. One of the best things about Inka Gold in addition to it's beauty when rubbed directly onto paper is that it's water soluble and can easily be used as a gorgeous transparent water color paint. I splatted copper paint on to each sheet at the end using the tile scrubbing brush. After the card stock is dry you can cut it up or punch out shapes and use it for card making or scrapbooking. I like to make lots of different color combinations so I have a ready supply of background papers. Enjoy!

August Card Making Challenge

For our monthly card making challenge at my Yahoo Group we will be making Anniversary cards. August is a common wedding month in America because so many people have time off from work during that month. This includes Carla and me! We will be celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary on August 21. You must follow the sketch above to make your card. There are no other restrictions or requirements. Three winners will be chosen at the end of the month and swell prizes will be awarded. Have fun and good luck!

June/July Card challenge winners

Here are the chosen entries in our explosion card challenge. At the top is Heidi Wegman's  summer get-away spot in a box! So clever and whimsical and as always impeccable made!

In the middle is a card close to my heart. Juliet Arrighi has recreated my "Just a Little Hello" card which I did on The Carol Duvall Show some years ago. The 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card opens to reveal an 8 1/2" x 11" message. Beautifully done Juliet!

Finally, Janet Castle has made a lovely card using my new stamp called "Hannah's Busy Bee" named for my little Grand daughter. Exquisite coloring Jan!

Each of you will receive my new Cloisonne Seahorse stamp set (not yet released) as soon as I have them to send out.

Thank to all who submitted a card for this challenge, every one was wonderful.  It was hard to pick just three!

Shana Tova Umetukah!

A nice lady in my Saturday workshop purchased Hannah's Busy Bee stamp and reminded me that honey plays a symbolic role in the Rosh Hashanah seder. With that in mind I made some cards for the Jewish New Year coming up in September. The arrangement of the honeycombs makes a Star of David in the negative spaces. Shana Tova Umetukah!

4th of July Banners

Here's a quick and easy way to decorate for your 4th of July backyard barbeque. All you need is red, white and blue cardstock cut into 2" x 11" strips, A star punch, a small hole punch, scissors and yarn. Punch stars into the strips of cardstock. Punch a small hole in the top of each strip to string the yarn through. Cut a V shape into the bottom of each strip. String them onto the yarn and tie them above your table or where ever you like . Use the punched out star "confetti"  to decorate your table. Happy 237th Birthday America!
